This spring, in cooperation with the student activist network Mobilize.org, the Concord Coalition and Americans for Generational Equity (AGE) will bring together 15 prominent young leaders for a two-day summit in the nation’s capital to develop findings and principles on how to eliminate the projected budget shortfalls in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in ways that are fair to all generations.

The Youth Entitlements Summit (YES) aims to focus the exuberant youth activism that has helped define the 2008 presidential contest on a challenge of overriding generational importance. Few, if any, challenges will have a greater impact on the lives of today’s young.

YES will have two phases. During the first day and a half, the delegates will conduct four hearings—held in congressional hearing rooms—where they will interact with leading authorities on issues related to the substance and politics of entitlement reform. These hearings will address:

On the afternoon of the second day, the delegates will go into closed session, where they will consider and adopt findings and reform principles, by super-majority vote of two-thirds (with abstentions not counting). The results will be released at a special Wake-Up Tour dinner to be hosted that evening by Concord Coalition.
